Freedom Boulevard Mural

Freedom Boulevard Wall by Thierry Noir

Credited as the first artist to paint the Berlin Wall in the 1980s and a forerunner of the street art movement as a whole, Thierry Noir is an iconic artist and muralist based in Berlin. Since the 1980s, Noir has continued to create murals worldwide in cities including London, Los Angeles, and Sydney.

‘Freedom Boulevard’ is a massive 15,000-square-foot public mural stretching across a large portion of the Lofts at NoHo Commons. It is Noir’s largest mural in the world and represents “a symbol of freedom and an act of defiance against walls, borders, and persecution.”

Unveiled in 2017, the mural also marked the 50th anniversary of Berlin and Los Angeles becoming sister cities. Noir lived at Lofts at NoHo Commons for roughly a month while he finished the piece.
